TRIPLE PLAY

Providing an infrastructure capable of economically delivering voice, video, and data services to the mass consumer market takes a 'triple-play' platform. With its extensive BRAS, IP edge routing, and ATM switching capabilities, net.com's SCREAM® is perfectly suited to these complex and demanding architectures.

Full Service Access Networks (FSAN) demand a comprehensive interworking function (IWF) in order to provide seamless interconnection with the backbone networks delivering these three disparate services. Perhaps more important, though, is the ability to deliver triple play services across the most prolific broadband access mechanism in the world: Plain old ADSL. Within these 70 million subscribers lies the key to developing a relationship where wireline service providers deliver video content and where consumers are educated in the changing role of voice from a 'network service' to a broadband application.

Delivering the IP QoS guarantees (demanded by VoIP and MPEG-4/WM9 video) over an existing ATM transmission infrastructure requires a tight coupling of the ATM switching and IP Edge Routing functions of a triple play platform. SCREAM's QServ implementation not only provides comprehensive native IP and ATM traffic management features, it ensures that these high-priority shaped IP flows are not delayed or discarded during the critical hierarchical ATM layer shaping process.
